File Encryption Vault

Help

I forgot my password

On the unlock screen choose "Forgot it? Unlock with your recovery key", then change the password in Settings. Without the password and the recovery key nobody can open the vault, including us.

Can I put a vault in Dropbox, OneDrive or iCloud Drive?

Yes. Only encrypted files are synced. Open the vault on one computer at a time; a second computer opens it read-only until the first one locks it.

Can I open the same vault on Windows and Mac?

Yes: copy it, put it on a USB stick or a synced folder, and use "Open existing…".

How do I get my files out without the app?

See Format & recovery: the open-source vault-recover tool, or the standard age tool, with your recovery key.

Copy in or Move in?

Copy keeps your originals. Move deletes them, but only after the encrypted copy was read back and its checksum matched. Deleting a file does not reliably erase it from an SSD; if that matters, encrypt files before they ever touch the disk unencrypted.

What do the free limits mean?

The free version keeps one vault with up to 5 GB of files. Over the limit you can still open, preview, export and delete everything; only adding stops.
